Raised in rural northwest Georgia and the Chattanooga area, Kane Allen Brown experienced a challenging upbringing. His mother, Tabatha Brown, is white, and his father, who has been incarcerated since 1996, is African-American and part Cherokee. Brown discovered he was biracial at the age of 7 or 8, which led to experiences of racial discrimination during his youth. Brown's music career took off in 2014 when he began posting cover songs on social media platforms like Facebook and YouTube. His rendition of George Strait's "Check Yes or No" went viral, garnering millions of views and a substantial online following. In 2015, he released his debut EP, "Closer," funded through a Kickstarter campaign. The success of his single "Used to Love You Sober" led to a contract with RCA Nashville in 2016. His self-titled debut album, released the same year, featured the hit "What Ifs" with Lauren Alaina, making him the first artist to simultaneously top all five main Billboard country charts. Kane Brown married singer Katelyn Jae on October 12, 2018.
